Soumya Mishra wins Secretariat Open chess title

Fide Master Soumya Ranjan Mishra won the title in the 6th All-Odisha Open Chess Tournament, which concluded here at the Secretariat Recreation Club today. Soumya and Rakesh Kumar Jena of Jajpur tied for the top spot, scoring eight points from nine rounds. The former eventually clinched the title and a cash prize of Rs 5,000 in Buchholz tie-break system, while the latter settled with the runner-up prize of Rs 4,000.

Altogether 97 players took part in the four-day championship, which was organised by Secretariat Recreation Club (SRC). Local MLA Bijay Kumar Mohanty gave away the prizes in the presence of SRC secretary Managovinda Dalai.

Bhaskarshree Biswaroopanand, Pravat Kumar Ojha, Sampad Baliarsingh, Nabanita Patnaik (6 each).
